Jemiarth’s First Solo Exhibition

SOZO σώζω.

Exhibition Project: SOZO is a collaborative effort between two artists – Jemiarth, an 18 year old artist and student, Paris Cheung (Hues), a full time missionary at YWAM Gateway HK; towards a mission of healing through art. Paris had received the mission of creating a space where Hong Kong can experience the Heaven’s healing.

Thus, inviting Jemiarth to embark on this goal together. As we sought the Lord together, the theme “Healing—SOZO” emerged, filling us with His peace. From there, we joyfully planned this art exhibition as an open invitation for all to encounter God’s love and presence, especially those who are struggling in their lives. Our aim is to share this overflowing hope with our city of Hong Kong, to tell everyone there is a Healer, a Saviour, waiting for us. The answer is here.

The Art of Sozo

SOZO is meant to be walked through as a story. Each chapter stationed to represent a path towards healing. Even as you reach the “final” chapter of the exhibition, we believe there is no complete wholeness until we meet our Healer face to face above. But it is a reminder that the journey of healing is never-ending, continuous, and circles back. SOZO is a testimony of the pain and beauty towards the journey of Healing that everyone must embark on.

Station 1: Brokenness

Brokenness tells of the emotional turmoil and anxiety filled years of the artist’s grief and loss of relationships. These artworks delicately portray her inner world of pain. Jemiarth created amidst of the pain because she believed that if she did not make something out of the hurt she experienced, it would have been worthless.

Station 2: Encounterment

The Encountering of Something greater than the reality faced. A light that feels strangely familiar enters slowly but surely back into Jemiarth’s life as she paints out her reconnection with her Healer. The artist discovers her form of prayer is to paint, she perseveres to do so through intense emotional and art burnout.

Station 3: Action

Faith without actions is dead. The journey to was not magically happening overnight. It was tedious and at times unbearable. Jemiarth painted out how she felt stagnant and frozen in place, but her desire to be healed outweighed. She needed to play her cards, or simply know that there was Something more in control.

Station 4: Healing

Depicting Healing as the artist was healing. Jemiarth placed an emphasis on the change of color and use of 3D elements to solidify her experiences of how He healed her family and burnouts . Using the story of the bleeding woman in Jesus’ healing ministry to highlight that healing is not simply physical, but transcends into the spiritual.

Station 5: Wholeness

The final station illustrates Jemiarth’s personal convictions and reminders during the planning of SOZO. Even as challenges push through her life, she knows that wholeness will be the conclusion one day. As the artist wrestles with her passion, she is reminded of the true meaning in this season, and in everyday life; Emmanuel– God is with her, always.
